Champlain Orchards' 2008 CSA program
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a share?
Having a CSA share is a way to be guaranteed fresh local produce for much of the year. We have two different share sizes: Full and Half,
and two different share periods: Summer and Winter. You can get any combination of these shares. For instance, you might want a Full Summer Share
and then a Half Winter Share, or vice versa. Each share period runs sixteen weeks, during which time you would make sixteen pickups (one per week.)
You can make your pickup here at our farm or at any of our Satellite Locations.
How do I pay for my share?
We accept credit cards and cash here at the farm, or you can mail us a check. When paying by check, you will have the option of paying in full for your
entire share, or splitting the payments into two eight-week segments. For instance, if you wanted a Half Summer Share (which costs $400 total,) you could
send us two checks for $200 each. You could post-date one of the two checks to coincide with the beginning of the 2nd eight-week period of the share.
What if I miss the startup date for the share?
No problem! We encourage people to sign on even if they've missed the beginning of the share period. No matter how many weeks you've missed, we'll be glad
to bring you on board. We will, of course, deduct the weekly cost of the weeks you've missed from the share's total price. For instance, a Half Share in either
Summer or Winter costs $25 per week. If we are 3 weeks into the Summer Share and you decide you want to join, we'll take $75 off the total cost.
How can I get my share?
You can pick it up right here at our Farm Market every Tuesday, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm, or you can pick it up from one of our satellite locations (see below for more
info about satellite locations.) When you come to the farm, you can enjoy our entire orchard, picking your own apples and raspberries or checking out our
greenhouse, bakery and/or cider mill.
What if I can't make it to the farm - can I still get a share?
Of course! We're striving to add more satellite dropoff locations to the two locations we currently service (Otter Creek Brewery in Middlebury and Honey Gardens
Apiaries in Ferrisburgh.) You should check out our retail store list for info about where in the Vermont / New Hampshire area we travel. That will give you a good
idea of potential places we can set up new satellite dropoff locations. If you can get a group of people committed to making a CSA pickup every week, we will
do our best to set up a new satellite dropoff location for you. Please contact us and let us know!
How can I help?
We would love your help! We're going to be offering perks for anyone who can coordinate our satellite dropoffs for interested groups. Also, if anyone wants to
submit recipes or graphics, or help us in any way organizing, coordinating, or crunching numbers, please let us know, and we'll figure out some way to pay you back.
